I’ve been researching project and in the process came across definitions for the various types of love. The ancient Greeks thought there were eight types of love. Agape defined as unconditional love. Eros defined as romantic love. Phila defined as the love you might have for a friend. Philautia defined as self-love. Storge defined as the love you have for family members. Pragma defined as enduring love. Mania defined as obsessive love, and finally, Ludus which the Greeks defined as playful love. Ludus has taken on a connotation of being something negative. There is a suggestion that it is conquest by either a male or a female of someone for purely the adventure of doing it. The most common modern term applied to a male who engages in this activity is “a player.” There are two terms applied to a female who engages in activity as either “a playette” or “a baller.” It’s clear that the mores of our society allow for casual sex for single people, and maybe we should start using the term Ludus again as sex for playful fun?
