Disappointment

Disappointment

Sharing is caring!

I just returned from a short trip. Overall, the trip was amazingly successful. The one downside was the motel where I stayed. I know the chain very well as I had worked there both as a maid and as a desk clerk. I’m not going to mention the name of the chain because this motel was not a great example. I have stayed this chain all over the United States and have noticed some interesting facts. Like many, it is a franchise and each motel reflects the owner. Within what is allowed under the franchise, there are some interesting differences. The motel I stayed at reflects the owner who is trying to maximize his or her profit with as little expense as possible. This owner took it to the extreme. The first thing I noticed was the pillows on the bed were tiny. They were square and smaller than most decorative pillows you’d see in the living room plus they had been used for so long that they were flat. There were no phones in the rooms. This made it interesting since people who came to see me couldn’t stop at the front desk and they could just call me. The front desk had to find someone to come to my room and get me. It is early summer so the temperatures are not in the extreme, but the air conditioner worked as far as the fan but the compressor never came on so it didn’t provide any cool air. The windows were designed to be opened which would’ve been nice, but the latch to open the window was broken leaving me with no way to open the window. The room just continued to get hotter all day long. Usually, a motel is generous with towels – not at this one. The bathroom had one washcloth, one hand towel, and one bath towel. As I said this owner was trying to run the motel as cheaply as they possibly could. I hadn’t looked at the reviews for the motel before booking a room there because I was familiar with the chain. I should have because it would’ve warned me off from staying there. I had booked for two nights, but I bailed after one. They didn’t refund for the night I didn’t stay, but I was so happy to get out of that dump it was a small sacrifice. Oh, I did get one thing – a pen!

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
