Spammers versus actual readers

Spammers versus actual readers

Sharing is caring!

I have been noticing an interesting phenomenon. When someone replies to one of my postings, I have to approve that reply to avoid spam. This morning there was a little over twice the number of spam pieces than the actual number of people who visited my website! The number of people who visit my website, blog, is counted automatically. It’s impossible to visit my website and not be counted as a visitor. The counter is something that you could consider to be “dumb.” If you were reading a post on my site and went to look up something and left my website to look it up, and you returned, you would be counted as a “new” visitor.

The only way I can explain how I could get twice the number of comments on posts than the actual number of visitors is someone is selling my address. People might want to buy my address because this blog is actually older than the current version. When I first started this blog, I did all of the programming in HTML myself. That went on for a little over five years. I found myself doing more programming than blogging. I decided to use WordPress to take away any need for my skills as a programmer. It might seem I’ve gone off-topic here, but the important thing is this blog is gone on for many years. If they can get me to approve a post, then URL to their site will link mine. Search engines like Google will move sites up in their search results when they see many links to other sites. Long-lasting sites are more important to search engines like Google.

That is the reason spammers are willing to pay for addresses of active websites. They are trying to attract more visitors to their website. I looked at the website the spammers were trying to get me to link to this morning. 93% of them were various porn sites. The remaining 7% seem to be small businesses. The most interesting of them was one selling kits and other products needed to grow your own mushrooms.

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
