Wild critters and diapers

Sharing is caring!

It’s not long after the bears had come out of hibernation, so they are hungry. I wouldn’t mind them raiding the birdfeeders for a snack, but they destroy them in getting at the grain in them. The problem is we have summer birds arriving and in many cases, the food supplies for them are still limited. If we feed them, we must bring in the birdfeeders every night. This time year we just set the birdfeeders on a table on our deck during the day. This year I saw a new Warbler at one of our feeders. We also have three kinds of squirrels – gray, red, and flying. The flying we don’t see during the day. Both the red and gray squirrels are messy eaters and throw more of the food from the feeders on the deck and on the table than they eat. That makes a mess on the deck, but fortunately, mother nature has some cleanup crews. The deer will actually come up on the deck and clean up the spilled grain. I used to think. Didn’t know how to use stairs, but they do. The Wild turkeys also come up on the deck and even get up on the table to eat. Last but not least, the birds ranging from various blackbirds to the many different types sparrows also help clean up the floor of the deck and the table. The critters don’t seem to be very shy. The other day there was a deer with its butt planted firmly against the door going out to the deck as browsed the spilled grain. It’s interesting to see the interaction of the turkeys with the deer. Sometimes the deer will chase the turkeys off and at other times the turkeys will chase the deer off. However, if something spooks either one of them, they both take off. It’s fun to watch them, but I wish they clean up after themselves or at least wear diapers.
