I don’t know if you’re like me, but I didn’t get a chance to listen to much of the hearing with Michael Cohen this week. When I took a break for lunch from my writing, I listened on the radio as I ate. Maybe it’s my writer’s mind, but to make sense out of what was going on I had to make the three major actors, the Republicans, the Democrats, and Michael Cohen into something else. I settled on making them a family with the family dispute. Michael Cohen would be the wayward child. The Republicans would be the father. The Democrats would be the mother. The father was clearly disgusted by what the wayward child had done and that was very clear in his tone of voice. The mother was clearly interested in what motivated the wayward child. The wayward child was trying to be very contrite. Whether that contrariness was real depended on which parent was viewing it. This helped me understand the little bit of the hearing I heard and the follow-up on the various news broadcasts and in the paper. Perhaps, my weird way of looking at things will help you understand what happened this week a little better.
