As you know, I have given a great deal of thought about the current political divide in this country. I believe one of the reasons it continues is it benefits the politicians. However, it interests me how a person ends up on one side of the divide or other. What’s got them so firmly fixed in their belief that their side is the correct one? I have two friends whose backgrounds couldn’t be much more diverse. Yet, both are firmly on the same side of the divide. One is a graduate from a prestigious college and has become comfortably financially independent. The other never finished high school and struggles in all sorts of ways including financially. They have very different vocabularies because of their education or lack of it. Yet, they both use exactly the same set of words or perhaps I should say words with the same meanings. Their words say they are both fearful. Their world is changing in ways they are afraid of. If you attempt to talk to them about almost anything, they get angry and accuse you of talking about politics. I remarked to one of them on a bright sunny day that was a nice day. The immediate reaction was I was talking about climate change. Suddenly everything has become political. Some friends that I have known for a half-century or more I’m afraid to talk to or others have told me they don’t want to talk to me anymore. There has to be some sort of solution. Any suggestions?

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
