The current novel I’m working on take place over quite a length of time. I want the novel to be realistic and I try to add some current events, even music, to the novel that would have an effect on the characters or they might discuss. You can go to Wikipedia and look up all kinds of things by year. That’s what I was doing when I stumbled across a song I had never heard before. The song is 15 Years Ago by Conway Twitty. You can listen to it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRlLOhoMClE As the song started, I thought it was going to be typical country-western pity song about a man losing a woman, but quite a ways into the song you find out the man is happily married and it’s just that he can’t forget the woman from long ago. It didn’t seem very realistic to me, but then I learned in my teens never get involved in any “intense” relationship because I was soon going to move. There were actually two reasons for that. First, it didn’t feel good to me when I had to leave and leave someone behind and second, I didn’t want to hurt the other person. I had seen that happen and it didn’t feel good. I have blogged about a note I’d gotten from Millie who wrote me that I was her first love after finding my blog, so it’s clear some people long memories of what could be called lost loves.
I am wondering if the song and Millie are more common than I thought. What do you think? Do you still remember lost love?
