I am always fascinated about what is called the start of summer or what is technically known as the longest day of the year. If you look up sunrise and sunset for your location, you will find all sorts of things. I always thought of Twilight as the time between sunrise and the day or sunset and night. They are actually three twilights, astronomical, nautical, and civil. They vary by approximately two hours. That makes “night” here from 12:25 AM to 2:16 AM for today. It appears that that definition is an astronomical one. That compares to the shortest day of the year, December 21, with approximately eight hours for the day and sixteen hours for the night. I remember going to school and coming home in the dark. The only daylight was when I was in school! Living in the north has benefits other than cold. In the summer when there was no school, I could play for two-thirds of the day in the sunshine.
