Dishonest or not?

Dishonest or not?

Did you get a chance to do what I suggested yesterday and watch competing news channels? It had been a while since I had taken the time to look at competing channels. I wasn’t surprised. I looked at a couple of stories about inflation. The two reports were so different that they might be from different countries. I noticed even more significant differences in the reporting about the January 6 hearings. One channel reported on what had happened in the hearing. The other channel only said that it was just a witchhunt. That surprised me. I’m sure they could’ve found something they didn’t like in the hearing.

It did once more prove to me that one of the causes of the divide in our country is how polarized reporting has become. One channel reported how the war in Ukraine raised the price of oil products. Since everything has to be shipped, prices will go up, ranging from your newspaper to the vegetables in your supermarket. The other channel said that the administration hadn’t permitted more oil leases, thus limiting the oil supply. They said that the crisis was 100% the current administration’s fault.

I think there’s truth in both stories, but if you listen to just one of the stories, you would come to very different conclusions. In some respects, you would have to listen to both stories and come to your own conclusion. No one has the time to listen to two channels daily and figure out what the truth really is. The reporting is not dishonest. It simply relies on emphasizing one part of the story to make its point.

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
