How do you spend your love?

How do you spend your love?

I ran across this quote from Nick Laird, “Time is how you spend your love.” Nick Laird is a poet and novelist from Northern Ireland. He was born in 1975, so he still writes and comments on life in his poetry and novels. I don’t know where this quote came from, but it looks like it would’ve come from one of his poems. It reads like a line from an ancient source like Tao. On second thought, it makes perfect sense. If you love someone, you will spend your time with them.

Christmas passed less than a week ago. It reminds one of a phrase we steal from Charles Dickens. In his famous story, A Christmas Carol, the first ghost to visit Scrooge represents Christmases that have passed. If we think of love, it might be the first Christmas after we married. Newly married couples tend to be poor, so they tend to think of the other as their Christmas present. What greater gift is there than giving oneself to their partner?  It becomes a long-cherished memory.

I agree with Nick Laird “Time is how you spend your love.” Do you agree?

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
