It is Christmas week. We will have a white Christmas here in northern Minnesota. There will be an Alberta Clipper going through tonight which will add something from 1 to 4 inches of snow to what we have already. Again, there will be another round of snow on Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day. It’s too early to tell the amount, but it looks like it will be bigger snowfall than we’ll get to tonight and early tomorrow.
Our Christmas shopping is done because my wife told me not to buy anything more. Grin. We had a treat last night to celebrate the holiday. You cannot find duck breasts in our small town. We ordered them online, and they arrived frozen. With temperatures not reaching the freezing point, they stayed had to stay frozen. I braised them. There’s another one in the freezer to enjoy a bit later. I think we will have lutefisk on Christmas Eve for supper. It’s so much easier to cook lutefisk now that we have a microwave. It used to take a huge pot of boiling water and wrapping the lutefisk in cheesecloth to cook it in the boiling water. We will do a white gravy and have chopped onions on top of the gravy with the lutefisk.
Christmas cards are arriving in full force. I got one from a good friend, Azmi, who lives in Switzerland. I met him when he got his Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania many years ago. He’s retired now, but he worked for many years for a company that makes enormous generators for the electrical grid. His Ph.D. was the design of a generator that could be used even as a started up. It used to be that they had to waste the energy the generator produced before it reached its targeted speed. AC generators didn’t provide the proper 60 cycles while being started before Azmi figured out a design that produced the proper frequency even as the generator came up to speed.
Why don’t you share your plans for Christmas? Just reply to this posting, and I’ll make sure it’s visible. That sentence might not make sense to you, but I must approve every reply to a post I make because of spammers. They must be taking the week off because there were only two pieces of spam replies this morning. Please share your Christmas plans. It needn’t be long. Something as simple as “Watching the kids open their Christmas presents” would make a great reply.
