Inosculating

Inosculating

Sharing is caring!

What do you make of these two sentences? “Bill saw they were in love because they were inosculating. He could not make out where she began, and he ended.” At first, I wasn’t sure what “he” and “she” were doing. Whatever was happening, it was clearly between a male and female. Perhaps, it was a clever way to avoid censorship because it was some kinky sex act. Let’s check out the word “inosculating.” The first thing that comes up is from the medical field. There it means uniting things like blood vessels and nerves by a small opening. That does not seem to fit with what Bill saw when he looked at the couple. I looked up several definitions of the word, and this one stood out, “fitting closely together.” I think that’s probably what the author meant, “Bill saw they were very much in love because Bill could not make out where she began, and he ended.” However, the medical definition did mention a small opening…?
