A question for you

Sharing is caring!

In my last post, I asked this question, “Do you have a memory of an event that changed your life?” I didn’t ask anyone to explain their answer. I got a reply from someone with this email address anyone@anywhere.com. If you remember, I told anyone who didn’t want to be identified to use that email address. I would make sure they couldn’t be identified. They had a one-sentence answer to my question. It reads, “The first garden I ever planted because of the melancholy it brought.” I was fascinated by the choice of the word melancholy in the answer. Melancholy is an interesting word as it generally has two meanings. They are “sadness of spirit” or “melancholy thoughts.” Interestingly, it is a phrase that can be used to define itself.

How can the planting of a garden bring melancholy to the person planting it? It’s an exciting idea to explore. I’ll let you do that, and then you can tell me the why of your answer if you want.
