Last week I asked for comments on why a wife would kill her husband. I give you a bit of dialogue that included the reason a wife would kill her husband. Let me address the negatives that I got first. They were all basically homophobic. They did not believe that a woman who had been married and had children could suddenly find herself in love with another woman. At the other extreme, this is an example of what I received – “I have felt a sudden attraction to another woman.”
The other comments thought the dialogue thoroughly covered the reason a woman would kill her husband or felt there could be a little more detail than the dialogue I provided. Most suggested a scene where the wife and the woman she’s falling in love with are together, and the attraction is clearly evident.
I thought all of the answers other than the homophobic ones were very useful. I asked question because I did not want the mystery to be solved suddenly for reasons that the reader couldn’t discern from the text. For example, in the novel, Jim is told that Sally has been seen many times with Karen. He has also been told that Karen is a lesbian. The fun part of writing a mystery novel is giving the reader clues that are hard to notice or they may ignore because they don’t seem plausible – grin!
