Music I’m listening to

Sharing is caring!

I took some time to listen to music on my Prime Music account. It seems I don’t get much time to do that. The first thing I listened to was on an album titled Sacred Treasures: Choral Masterpieces from Russia. On that album, I sought out an old favorite of mine – The Noble Joseph.

My tastes are very eclectic. The next thing up for me was an Iris DeMent album titled The Way I Should. She writes all her songs. The songs can be very hard-hitting as they are autobiographical. I remember one title from the first time I saw it – Letter to Mom. I was puzzled because I knew her mother had died not long before the album’s release. Her mother had even sung on her first album, Infamous Angel. Anyway, she sings about her mother getting a new boyfriend. Iris tells us that she was just 10 when the boyfriend climbed into her bed and left her wishing she was dead. Iris never feels sorry for herself for a very long and another song in the album tells you that – I’ll Take My Sorrow Straight. The album came out in 1996. I looked for it on Amazon. It’s out-of-print as they list a CD for $57.98. In small print, you can see other buying options from $4.99.

I love the sound of the choral masterpiece album. However, I love the honesty of all of Iris DeMent’s albums. Hey, what can I say? I have eclectic taste.

    1. There is something about that Russian choral group that feels extra special. What I like about Iris DeMent is that she is writing about her life.
