What are they thinking?

Sharing is caring!

I was fascinated by some of the news coverage from the NATO meetings this last week. President Trump was treated quite differently. I live close enough to the Canadian border to watch television and hear radio stations from there. Their news is very different than what we get here in the United States from any network. I’ve always curious about what the world is saying about us. You can read all kinds of newspapers from every European country. Just do a Google search for something like “newspapers in Germany.” Some will be in English, but you will get a broader picture if you choose those in German. Here’s the address that I use when reading German newspapers in German. https://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/german_news.htm I know a little German but not nearly enough to be able to read newspapers. When looking at foreign newspapers in their native language, I use Google’s Chrome browser. It recognizes that the page you are looking at is not in English and asks if you want to translate it. A simple click of the mouse and you reading the newspaper in English. I gave this example using German, but it works with all of the European languages.

Now that I’ve given you the way you can read foreign newspapers, I’ll tell you what I found out about the NATO meeting. Every one of the European newspapers I read had articles about the meeting. Each was about the part they were taking in NATO. It described the meetings and universally President Trump is not taken seriously. They all talked about the first meeting that President Trump attended and that he would not say that he would do what one of the articles called for and come to the aid of the European country. On that very first NATO meeting, he lost the confidence of the Europeans. There was also much talk about his pulling out of troops suddenly in Syria and letting Turkish forces in. They labeled him as untrustworthy.

We get kind of into ourselves in this country. We forget there’s a whole world out there. Some are friendly and some are not. It pays to know what other countries are thinking by reading directly what they are saying. Not one of the networks in this country on either side of the political divide covers what other countries are thinking. If you get a chance, do some exploring.

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
