Deer season

Deer season

Sharing is caring!

Tomorrow is the first day of the deer season – now known as rifle deer season. There’s archery deer season, black powder deer season, youth deer season, and it seems many more. That’s why we now have rifle deer season. Anyway, I’m getting away from the big day tomorrow. There’s a long tradition of coming up north to deer camp. It’s even celebrated in song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UU1b_D4pLu4 Growing up we called these refugees from the south “ribbon clerks.” Some of these refugees actually did hunt. I remember one who came by bus every year. He hadn’t had much luck, but one year he did shoot at a deer. We were all kind of surprised when he asked us if we could load his rifle for him. He had a box of shells. It seems before he got on the bus every year he would go to his local sporting goods store and have them load the rifle. When he got back home, he’d have them unload the rifle. I guess it’s a good thing he never got a deer. I can’t imagine the bus driver putting a deer in the luggage compartment. It also explains why I have to put on blaze orange to go down to my mailbox. You’d think someone in a wheelchair would be safe, but then some hunters think deer use wheelchairs?! After all, handicapped deer have to get around too!

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
