World War II began in Europe in 1939. The war also marked the end of the Great Depression. From then until 1945, the country was focused on the war. However, many opposed our entry into the war until Pearl Harbor. Earlier in September 1939, a Gallup poll found 84% of Americans were against sending troops to help our European friends. There was no division between the two political parties at that point. After Pearl Harbor, there was no division between the two political parties on entering World War II. World War II united the country.
