What do you remember?

What do you remember?

Sharing is caring!

It’s been a week to stay inside. It’s been cold and snowy. We have been getting wind chill ratings of -40°. The winds have been enough produced ground blizzards. There are towns within an hour’s drive of here that have visibility of less than a mile because of the snow blowing around this morning.

I got an interesting email about last week’s post about the man and perhaps a missed opportunity. It simply asked if the question I asked had it happened in my life. I am over a half-century away from my dating days. I gave her question much thought before I answered. I remember my very first girlfriend. I don’t remember my second girlfriend. In fact, I don’t remember any of the women I dated past the first one. That’s not their fault. It was a long time ago and covered three continents. As they say, “It’s lost in the mists of time.”

It started me thinking about what I remember or perhaps even a few imagined memories. There are some memories as fresh as the day they happened, like the death of my first wife and our baby. There are a few individual moments from Vietnam, but beyond those very intense moments, my memory fails me. We just finished the Christmas season. I remember arriving home from Vietnam on Christmas Day. The other Christmases in my life are all wrapped up in the comforting blanket of happy memories.

Perhaps, that’s all we can ask for memories. A few vivid moments that punctuate our happy memories are enough.

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
