What more could you want?

When I talk about my health, I am amazed that people want more what I call grisly details. I’ll pick something you all read about if you’ve been reading my blog, my ankle fracture 11-22-07. It was also the beginning of my search for answers to my painful back. It was the evening before Thanksgiving that year. I remember being upstairs answering emails and wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. The next thing I remember was waking up on the kitchen floor. I tried to stand but I couldn’t. I started to do a self-assessment and discovered that my left foot was pointed in the wrong direction. I could see the tibia and the fibula were protruding from my ankle. This was a small pool of blood on the floor on the wound, but I realized it was not life-threatening. The bones looked something like you would see at the grocery store meat counter. They were whitish in color. You could tell they also formed a joint. I couldn’t see the bones where they attached to, though. They came through the skin, and the skin didn’t look like it was torn as it was cut. Thanks to my Army training, I realized it could be repaired. I was not going to bleed out because of it. I was probably in shock and didn’t recognize the pain.

Those are the grisly details on the ankle break. The repair to the ankle was accomplished by an L-shaped piece of metal and five screws. They are still are there. They could be removed, but I don’t see any reason for that. I can’t understand what detail you might want to know more about. The smaller of the two bones stuck out the furthest. That’s the only other detail I remember. What more could you want?

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
