The English language is unique in the number of words it borrows from other languages. One of the most extensive borrowings occurred in 1066 A.D. when a group from Normandy conquered Britain. Normandy is a coastal region of France. That meant the new rulers of Britain’s native language was a dialect of French. If you wanted to sound like the in-group then ruling Great Britain, you adopted some of their words. In instead of saying deer meat, you would say venison. Why? Because it was rather vulgar to say deer meat when venison sounded posh.
Another word they adopted into the English language was benison. It is pronounced just like venison, but starting with a B sound. You could use benison anyplace you would use the word blessing. For example, after a long period of drought, the rain was a benison. Use the word benison and watched the confusion of those who are listening. You can then explain it is a posh word for the word blessing.
