Do politicians ever make sense?

Do politicians ever make sense?

Sharing is caring!

Do politicians ever make sense? I was watching the morning news on TV this morning. There was a storm over the president’s speech yesterday calling for a vaccine mandate. We all had to have our parents show our vaccine status for many diseases such as whooping cough, measles, mumps, polio, and so on before we attended school. These are all childhood diseases that, in a small percentage of cases, could cause death. There have always been exemptions for people with religious beliefs or whose medical status would cause vaccination to be dangerous.

Back to the storm – the newscaster said that 45% of Republicans say they will never get vaccinated. We are approaching 700,000 deaths from Covid 19. The death rate as a percentage is 1.9%, according to the figures I could find online. Most of those figures came from colleges that have tracked Covid 19 statistics. The Republican Party is already a minority party regarding the number of people who agree with their policies. This is really nothing new. Growing up, I remember Republicans who were against Social Security. They called it socialist at best or communist at worst. I can understand why they might feel that the world is changing too fast. My grandparents grew up in a horse and buggy world, only to see men walk on the moon.

I don’t understand the 45% of Republicans who won’t get vaccinated. It means 1.9% of their party members will die because of their beliefs. It also means they will become more of a minority party. They already know this. That’s why they’re trying to put voting restrictions in place. I really don’t think politicians make much sense. How about you?
