Question: What’s the purpose of love?

I got a comment about a post from 2018 several days ago. I had to go back and read the posting because I had forgotten the details. The same lady seemed to be reading past postings and then writing me about them. I’m flattered that someone would go back read three years of posts. The posts that drew most of her attention were about male/female relationships. It was enjoyable to read her emails. This morning there was another email. I got her permission to share part of the email. “Love is nothing more than nature’s way of ensuring the continuation of the human species.” Since you can’t read the rest of your email, let me say it is not said out of anger or disappointment. It was like she was channeling Doctor Spock from the Star Trek series. It was said out of pure logic. On the other hand, she wasn’t a true Doctor Spock as she said, “…the most delightful thing to experience” about her falling in love.

Both of her statements are true in her point of view. Which do you most agree with? Would it be “nature’s way?” Would it be “the most delightful thing?” Or is it both? Another cruder way might be to say, “the only purpose for love is sex” or get your jollies while continuing the human race. Too crude?

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
