This weekend ended in disappointment. On Friday, there was a vote on establishing a commission, a bill, to study the January 6 activity in Washington. It was defeated. It appeared to be ready to be passed until President Trump voiced his opposition. The senate’s leadership, Senator McConnell, immediately came out opposed to establishing the commission. That doomed the bill to establish the commission. I believe a commission would have found clear links between President Trump’s speech on January 6 and his tweets from the election until January 6. It was in his best interest to prevent the commission’s formation. It is clear the Republicans are not following him out of a sense of good lawmaking so much as they fear him.
