Minoan Royal Palace

Have you ever heard of the year 1177 BC? I hadn’t. However, I had been reading about the Minoan civilization when ads about 1177 BC started popping up. Most of the ads took me back to the book, 1177 B.C.: The Year Civilization Collapsed by Eric H. Cline published in 2014 by Princeton University Press. Cline wrote that five of the major civilizations around the Mediterranean Sea collapsed at that time. He wrote that “multiple interconnected failures” both of man-made and natural events destroyed all civilizations. Only the Egyptian civilization survived and they blamed the collapse on the “sea people.” The natural event Cline wrote about was the Sanatori Island eruption. That event occurred between 1642 and 1540 BC which was three hundred years earlier. However, it did start the collapse of the Minoan civilization. I guess when you’re are talking about events that happened three and half centuries ago the 300 years is a blink of the eye. What is interesting is about that time all but one of the civilizations surrounding the Mediterranean collapsed.

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
