Sharing is caring!
Yesterday was an exciting day. It took one day to visit a doctor – cringe! You could say that I live in a remote location, and in some cases, that is true. It was a 2 ½ hour drive each way to the doctor’s office yesterday. Once I arrived, there were some forms to be filled out. It wasn’t bad because there were only 12 pages. I’ve seen cases where there were 47 pages I had to fill out. I thought with computers that everything was going paperless, but that doesn’t seem to be true. There is even more paperwork to fill out than there was before computers. The receptionist had to scan in all the pages that required my signature into the computer. I thought I was done until I was led into the doctor’s office by a nurse and asked the same questions that were on the forms I had just filled out! I guess the goal is to collect the same information and then have the computer match them and see if they are the same! It must be an effort to make work for the computer because I can’t think of any need to collect the same information twice. Getting back to the exciting day yesterday, the five-hour driving time to get back and forth to the doctor’s office plus filling out all the paperwork and answering the nurse’s questions earned me a 10-minute discussion with the doctor. He informed me I would have to come back for another visit on another day. I guess the computer didn’t get full, and I need to fill out another 12 pages of forms and be reinterviewed by the nurse again before the computer is happy. This must be what it means when they say it is medicine by computer.
