I ran across a quote from one of my favorite Roman writers, Ovid. He was born in 43 BC and died about ten years before Christ did. I remember when I got far enough along in my Latin to be able to attempt translating him. He was a poet and spent about 25 years writing about love. He is best known for a three-volume work with the English title The Art of Love. The first volume tells a man how to find a woman. The second volume tells a man how to keep a woman. The third volume advises women on how to win the love of a man then how to keep him. I attempted to translate him because it was forbidden. In those days we would have said some of his writings were X rated. Today we probably wouldn’t want the kids to read him, but it’s pretty tame writing compared to the erotica published today.
If this is a blue Monday for you, this short saying of Ovid will help.
“Be patient and tough; someday this pain will be useful to you.”
