I live in an area that is nothing like the areas of those of you who live near or around cities. We may share animal populations such as the White-Tailed Deer, but we have critters that you may never have heard of living here. For example, we have two small animals that no one seems to know about. The first is a Fisher. It is a small cat-sized animal that preys on other animals. There is another small carnivore called a Martin that’s an occasional visitor here, but more likely found just across the border in Canada. I will put Wikipedia links about both of them at the end of this blog. I am sure you have heard of the Gray Wolf, but you can’t step out on a winter’s night and hear them howling.

The other side of the coin is I have been to places like New York City and San Francisco. They seemed exotic to me. Even when I lived and worked in Philadelphia, I found myself surprised by what I found just around the next corner.

All said and done, I feel more comfortable here. I can go see a friend and drive for almost an hour and not see another car on the road. Yes, there are fewer people here. Distances here are measured in the number of hours it takes you to reach your destination, not miles. This last week I had a doctor’s appointment. It was a four-hour round-trip. We may live in very different worlds, but at this time year, we will all be celebrating the holidays. We should remember that we come in all colors, shapes, sizes, and live in very different places, but we are all humans with the same basic desires such as happiness.

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
