What I’m working on

Back in the middle of May, I blogged about the nonfiction writing I have done. According to an email I got this morning, that triggered the email’s author to ask, “What kind of fiction do you write? How did you choose it?” Long ago, I discovered that I love to tell stories. When I first start a story, I usually have a good idea of what genre it fits. Occasionally, I’m surprised. I remember a detective story that turned into a fantasy short story. I usually have several longer stories I think will become novels I am working on at one time. I also have some completed works. Of those that I believe are sellable, there is the story of one man’s life and struggles and joys. There is a mystery story. Sometimes I will complete a novel only to realize that it’s not sellable.

I realize that I’m not answering the email. I guess you can say what I work on at any one moment is the thing I find most interesting. I am going back and forth at the current moment between two novels. The one with the most extended history has the working title of Love and Other Disasters. The other one is a mystery novel that does not currently have a title. I can’t tell how long a story will be. Some novels become short stories. Some become 150,000-word monsters. The important thing to me is that I enjoy working on them. The mystery novel I am currently working on is approaching the halfway point for a mystery novel and is just under 37,000 words. I hope this satisfies your curiosity.

” I am a writer and as a writer, I do not neatly fit into any category. I have written magazine articles, feature news articles, restaurant reviews, a newspaper column, and several book length nonfiction projects aimed at people interested in particular health problems for foundations and companies. As to novels, I have published some Kindle novels.”
