Will be the end democracy or the end of the Republican Party?

Sharing is caring!

My last blog “When are you going to do” drew a number of emails. Because of the vast divide we have in this country at the moment in the political field, people are not willing to express their views openly. Almost all the replies I received appeared to come from people who identify as Republicans. They justify what they are doing in the swing states as being “true to the Constitution.” They say, “If the founders did not trust the mass of the people, why should they?” They just say they are going back to the strict reading of the Constitution and doing what the founders wanted. They say that they cannot trust the masses of people to make the right decision when it comes to voting for president. They also fear the declining number of people who vote Republican.

I have asked them why they do not promote their policies that most people would agree with such as national defense. Republicans are conservative by nature. They do not like change. That fact would seem to make older people their natural allies. Most people my age do not like homosexuality. They also do not trust people who do not speak English. I am afraid if they continue down this path of using Article II section 1 even more people will be lost to them.

I understand they have difficulty dealing with President Trump. The party is afraid of President Trump. At present, he controls the majority of his party, but the majority of his party is not a majority of the people in the United States. I believe it is his advisors who are pushing this method of ensuring the Republicans elect the next president of this country. I am afraid this tactic will backfire in one of two ways. It will end democracy or it will end the Republican Party.
