The first president I remember was Harry Truman. Yes, I am that old. Elections have always been “battles for our souls.” Supporters from one party always thought the other party would destroy the United States. About 80% of each party feels that way about this election. There is one difference. It is one man. That is all it takes to destroy democracy. You might not be as old as I am but think about the African and South American countries that have become dictatorships.

Further back in history, it took men like Napoleon and Hitler to destroy a nation. All it took was one man. They all preached that the system was corrupt and that only they could rescue the country. Around them grew something that we would label a cult. That word called is often reserved for religion, but look at this definition of a cult, “A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.” Look at the last four words of that definition, “an authoritarian, charismatic leader.”

Think about the words applied to our last election, “the great lie.” Those words have led to a movement where people are running in this election to prevent future elections from being stolen. They will be able to ignore voters’ wishes and install a charismatic leader in the next general election. These people believe they are safeguarding democracy. Are they really? I know they genuinely believe that is what they are doing. We must not hate them for that belief. They have been cleverly manipulated by a charismatic leader.

We must reject that charismatic leader. We must save our democracy. The signs of promoting authoritarian rule are hidden in things like the January 6 events and the attack on the partner of a leader, Pelosi’s husband. Only you can do that with your vote. Please!
